Green tea increases cognitive function

Research from the University of Basel has found that green tea extract increases the brain’s effective connectivity, improving cognitive function, and working memory tasks.

The same applies to drinking green tea.

The findings suggest green tea could be used to help treat memory loss caused by psychiatric disorders. It was even suggested green tea could improve conditions such as dementia. The results of the study were published in the journal Psychopharmacology.

After drinking green tea, volunteers were asked to perform simple memory tasks. MRI scans were used to view what was happening within the brain.

‘Our findings suggest that green tea might increase the short-term synaptic plasticity of the brain’, co-author Professor Borgwardt said.
